Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance – Financial Assistance

Fueled By Our Community

The Harrisburg Area YMCA is a nonprofit, health and human services organization committed to helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind, and body. YMCAs are here to serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and incomes. The YMCA is community-based and believes that its programs and services should be available to everyone. That’s why the YMCA offers the Financial Assistance Program. This program offers a sliding fee scale that is designed to fit each individual’s financial situation.

Help Is Always Here

The funds available for financial assistance are made possible through the generosity of our members and donors in the annual fundraising campaign known as the Annual Campaign. The YMCA believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the recipient has contributed to the cost of their YMCA involvement; therefore, financial assistance applicants will be asked to pay some portion of the fees.

Y-USA is ranked among the nation’s top charities. The American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP), which helps donors make informed giving decisions, has awarded the YMCA of the USA an `A’ in its most recent ratings. Y-USA is one of only two national human services charities to receive an A grade or better. The Armed Services YMCA is one of just four veterans and military charities to receive an A- grade or better. AIP bases its grades on two factors: 1) how much it costs an organization to raise in public contributions and 2) the percentage of an organization’s total expenses spent on services. To apply for financial assistance, please fill out our Financial Assistance Application below and return it to your local YMCA branch.

A Testimonial

Berta and her late husband came from Russia to Harrisburg, PA in 1995. They joined the East Shore YMCA in 2011 because they drove by and noticed the great diversity of the people going in and out of the building. Since her husband’s passing, Berta continues to come to the YMCA twice a week and is a recipient of YMCA financial assistance for her membership. She does not drive and needs to walk with the assistance of a walker. Berta has developed a strong bond with the staff who helped connect Berta with the financial assistance program. Berta shared that her Doctor recommended physical therapy for her replaced knee.

The YMCA staff is always checking on her to make sure she is doing her exercises properly and in a safe manner, and she enjoys using the pool. She stated that the language barrier can be difficult but everyone always helps her and greets her with a smile. She wants everyone who donates to the YMCA Annual Campaign to know how much she appreciates the YMCA and the kindness that she feels when she visits the building.

We are thankful for the many individuals who have donated to the YMCA over the years to help provide the financial assistance necessary to provide services to those who cannot afford it. For more information on financial assistance services available, please contact your local YMCA branch HERE.
