The Harrisburg Area YMCA values education and safety in the water. This is why we offer health and safety classes at select branches that teach beyond water fitness. The Y is a leading nonprofit committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are a leader in providing swim lessons and water safety for more than 100 years. Thus, the aquatics classes we offer, as well as our various other health certifications, are an important part of our commitment to health and water safety for our community.
Lifeguard and Water Safety Classes
Water safety is a high priority for the Y. Throughout the year, the Y offers American Red Cross lifeguard training courses in order to teach individuals how to keep members of their YMCA community safe in our indoor pools.
We offer lifeguard certification and re-certification as well as instructor courses for anyone interested in pursuing a lifeguard certification. Lifeguards play a key role in keeping a safe environment for our swimmers; lifeguards also play an active role in educating our members on water safety.
