Overview of Healthy Weight and Your Child
Healthy Weight and Your Child creates a safe, fun, and active environment for children and families to explore proven methods to living a healthier lifestyle. Studies have shown that this program is cost efficient and effective in its primary goals of reducing sedentary behaviors and improving self-esteem among children and parents/guardians.
This no-cost program involves group-based sessions that offer support, family huddles, goal setting and action planning, and physical activity. Each group of will have two co-leaders who will set you and your family up for success.
Duration
Healthy Weight & Your Child includes 20 bi-weekly sessions and five weekly sessions, each lasting two hours and combining classroom learning with fun physical activity.
Eligibility Criteria
Children ages 7-13 with a BMI at or above the 95th percentile, with child and parent/guardian cleared by a healthcare provider. An adult must be able to attend sessions with the child.
Program Goals
The program aims to maintain a healthy Body Mass Index, reduce sedentary behaviors while increasing physical activity, and boost self-esteem, all in a safe, engaging environment that encourages lasting healthy habits.
