Yoga at the YMCA

Yoga is an important exercise that allows for rest, while also extending and strengthening muscles. Most types include breathing, meditation, and posing. These movements stretch and flex many muscle groups. If you’re looking for a low-impact way to improve your fitness and health, try our Yoga classes at select Harrisburg Area YMCA branches! Our classes can help with the following:

  • Flexibility
  • Energy
  • Balance
  • Injury care
  • Weight loss
  • Improved athleticism
  • Increasing muscle strength
  • Cardio health

The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers classes with changes for many skill levels. This way, you can feel refreshed and at ease whether you’re a beginner or an expert. Bring your tired muscles to a class to stretch away the stress with us! See our classes available below.

Ashtanga

Ashtanga Yoga, is a vigorous practice that helps build stamina, flexibility and concentration through various stretching exercises. This class can give you a workout and help you de-stress. Note that for Ashtanga, posture work is vigorous in order to keep correct form and keep the body in shape.

Chair

A 45-minute yoga class where you can always be seated or choose to stand up for balance poses toward the end of class. It helps with strength, flexibility, balance, mental awareness, and breathing in a gentle, safe way.

Gentle

A gentle balance between foundation and fluidity of postures, building upon the principles of alignment. Perfect for beginners!

Hatha

A gentle, focused practice using meditation, poses, and breathing exercises to help you lengthen and relax. Beginner Level (Gentle Hatha Yoga) is appropriate for those new to Yoga, active older adults, or people recovering from injuries.
