We Are Here For You!
The Camp Curtin YMCA has launched the Trauma Response Community Violence Prevention program in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). The COVID-19 pandemic has created situations beyond our control, and the Camp Curtin Trauma Responders are now available to help community members with accessing basic needs and connecting to resources needed to get through this challenging time. The goal of the Trauma Response program is to make the Camp Curtin neighborhood safer by integrating Trauma-Informed training, mentoring, and programming throughout the community! This will be accomplished through the following efforts:
- Providing Trauma-Informed training to all staff and volunteers at the Camp Curtin YMCA, select Harrisburg police officers, community organizations, parents of youth in the organization, and community members.
- Providing a Trauma Responsive Mentorship and Career Exposure program for Elementary and Middle School students.
- Engaging the community in Therapeutic Practices through Blue Table Talk discussions and Community Outreach events.
These measures create a culture of change that is necessary to respond to traumatic experiences a community might face. The ultimate goal of this project is to bring the Camp Curtin neighborhood together in a collective effort to reduce incidences of violence, increase trauma awareness, and build a stronger community.
