Masks

Masks are no longer required for fully vaccinated individuals for general building usage. Fully vaccinated is defined as:

  • 2 weeks after the second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

Masks are still required in all Child Watch areas and in all licensed Child Care areas.

  • Camp Curtin YMCA: Masks are required to be worn at all times by all individuals.

Capacity Monitoring

We will no longer be requiring that you check out of our facilities. We will still provide the online capacity dashboards using an auto-checkout feature. Your scan will expire after three hours, providing a general idea of our busyness at a given time. We hope you continue to find this tool helpful as you plan your attendance at the YMCA!

Temperature Checks

Temperature scans will no longer be required for general building usage. Temperature checks are still required in Child Watch areas and in all licensed Child Care areas.

  • Camp Curtin YMCA: Temperature checks will continue until further notice for everyone entering the building.

Locker Rooms

You may use any locker in the locker room and are encouraged to spread out in the facility. Keys are no longer provided: all members must bring their own lock for all locker rooms at all of our locations. Please continue to keep the locker room clean by sanitizing and washing your hands often.

Wellness Center

All equipment will now be available for use in facility Wellness Centers and Weight Rooms. All equipment must be wiped down before and after use; Y staff will disinfect all equipment each night after closing.

Water Fountains

All water fountains are now available.

Equipment Policies

Please bring your own Basketball, Racquetball, and Pickleball equipment. Fitness class participants will now be able to borrow yoga mats, weights, and other standard equipment if they wish.

Pool Availability

We are no longer requiring reservations for the pool! Please refer to the specific branch pool schedules provided for open swim, class, and lap swim times.

  • Friendship YMCA: Based on demand, the Friendship YMCA may require reservations as we seek to hire more lifeguards during peak times.

Slide (Friendship YMCA Only)

Many of our members have asked about the status of the slide, and we continue to work towards having the slide fully operational. We wanted to provide a current status update to aid in understanding. The external refurbishment of the slide is nearly completed – replacement parts, new paint, and structural work have been done, and only a few simple tasks remain. The major issue that needs to be resolved is related to the panel and pump system that powers the slide. Upon inspection, the control panel that powers the pump has sustained major heat damage from previous overuse. The panel has been dismantled, and the pump was sent to a service company. The company is evaluating if the pump needs to be fully replaced, or if there is an option to refurbish. The safety of our members is the most important factor in our process, so we will need to ensure that the cost associated with the recommended solution is within the scope of our ability to pay before moving forward. The YMCA is committed to the slide project, and will provide a safe, fun slide experience as soon as possible!

Child Watch

Child Watch will be available by reservation only. Masks are required in the Child Watch area for anyone over the age of 2, regardless of their vaccination status. Please wear a mask when dropping off and picking up your child. Child Watch is available at the West Shore YMCA and Friendship YMCA at this time.

Fitness Classes

Fitness classes will resume at 100% capacity, with mask rules above applying for all members and staff. We will continue to provide robust group fitness schedules, including outdoor and virtual classes. Land and water classes will no longer require pre-registration.

  • Northern Dauphin County YMCA: Please remember to register for your class session at the Front Desk or online.

Steam, Sauna, and Whirlpool Use

Steam, Sauna, and Whirlpool use will vary according to branch.

  • East Shore YMCA: Steam and Sauna facilities will now be available for use. Due to developing insurance coverage issues, whirlpools are currently being evaluated and will remain closed until further notice.
  • Friendship YMCA: The Whirlpool is undergoing repairs and will be available mid to late June.
  • West Shore YMCA: Our OSP members are once again invited to use the Steam and Sauna rooms at the West Shore YMCA. Due to developing insurance coverage issues, the West Shore YMCA will no longer be providing Whirlpools in the men’s and women’s OSP locker rooms.

Towels

The YMCA will no longer be providing towels. Unfortunately, the YMCA does not have the capability to wash towels at very high temperatures or acquire steam autoclave and linen seal wrap equipment to meet CDC guidelines.

Entrance and Exit

Building paths will be removed, and members can enter and exit the branch at their leisure.

  • East Shore YMCA: Please continue to enter the building using the North Street doors to complete your building check-in. You may now either exit via the parking lot doors or the North Street doors.

Coffee and Tea

We are excited to announce that coffee and tea service has returned to the Northern Dauphin County YMCA! Please stop by and enjoy a cup with us. Stay tuned for other branches.
