Hope in Handball with Mayor Papenfuse

On Wednesday, February 4th, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse came to the East Shore YMCA to participate in the Hope in Handball youth mentoring program.

For anyone not familiar with the program, Hope in Handball is a youth mentoring program that is run by YMCA members David Botero and Kevin Gibson. The goal of the program is to reach out to at-risk kids to help them learn life skills from adult mentors as they learn to participate in a new sport.

In the Hope in Handball program, youth learn about sportsmanship and most importantly, how to be themselves. The program is for kids between the ages of 8-18 and is free to qualifying youth.

Mayor Papenfuse was kind enough to give his time to participate in this program and help give back to the community of Harrisburg. He stayed for several hours and showed off his skill at playing handball!

The East Shore YMCA thanks Mayor Papenfuse for his support and dedication to our mission and to the community of Harrisburg.
