Pilates Fitness Classes

Join the Harrisburg Area YMCA’s Pilates classes to lengthen and strengthen your muscles. Based upon the Pilates method of body conditioning, these classes provide excellent flexibility work as well as gentle, non-impact exercises that strengthen abdominal and back muscles to ultimately stabilize the spine.

Pilates is a system of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body. The blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles. Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body moves as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.

The particular exercise of Pilates also seeks to strengthen the buttocks and upper body through conditioning and stretching exercises. Mat

Mat Pilates is a great way to strengthen your core muscles, as well as aligning the whole body using fun exercises that challenge and balance you. The concepts of alignment, breath, and control will be taught.

Mixed

This class incorporates both Mat and Ball Pilates and utilizes a variety of small equipment, but not always in the same class.

On Ball

Pilates on Ball is a fast moving class incorporating the stability ball and medicine ball with Pilates mat exercises. The tendency of the ball to wobble works the core, and makes an exercise more challenging. The ball can also be used to offer support, making a difficult exercise more manageab

Pilates and Callanetics

This class is geared toward those that have no experience or minimal experience with Pilates but would like to learn the exercises of the mat program. This series builds from week to week introducing new exercises each week focusing on the principles of Pilates and Callanetics. The exercises take the grace and fluidity of Ballet and the mind/body synergy of Yoga and combine them into a revolutionary exercise program that tones and reshapes the body.

PiYo

PiYo classes combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of Yoga. You will burn calories, tone muscles, work on balance and get a great stretch.

PiYo Strength

The PiYo Strength class is a strength workout that is a blend of many disciplines: sports training, core conditioning, dance, stretch and athletic drills. This exercise will help your body strengthen in flexibility, muscle, and reflex. This class is perfect for the individual who loves Pilates and Yoga, but desires an exercise routine that is a bit more intensive. PiYo Strength will help kick up the calorie burn while building muscle!

The West Shore YMCA offers Pilates Personal Training sessions one-on-one or with a buddy! To submit a request for a personal Pilates session just stop by the Welcome Center or give us call.  If further information is needed you will be contacted by Angelica Ried, our Group Exercise Coordinator. One of our instructors will then be in touch with you to set up your instruction time.

Personal Sessions

Perhaps you would prefer 1 on 1 instruction.  Personal instruction can be set up with any of our certified Pilates instructors. All sessions are an hour in length and can be purchased in 1 or 5  sessions.
