Cardio Fitness Classes

The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers a variety of cardio fitness classes that help keep your heart rate up and your calories burning! Cardio exercise is a great way to keep your lungs and heart healthy and offers numerous other health benefits.

One important component of staying active and healthy is cardiovascular exercise. Heart disease is currently the leading cause of death for both men and women. By increasing these types of workouts, you can help keep your body healthy and ultimately reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

At the Y, it is our goal to promote healthy lifestyles for individuals in our community. That is why we have provided multiple cardio fitness classes for our facility members and program members to choose from. In a group fitness environment, our classes allow you to work out with friends and push yourself to new limits based on your comfort level. Our certified instructors offer modifications so that anyone is welcome, regardless of their fitness level.

Popular Classes

While we offer a variety of classes across our association, there are a handful of fan favorites that are always available. Is there a class you’re jonesing to try?

Boxing

Incorporates sport-specific techniques used in boxing to provide a high level of conditioning for both aerobic and anaerobic systems of the body.

Spinning®

Spin® class offers a low-impact substitute to running on a treadmill that anyone looking to strengthen their legs can participate in! The Harrisburg Area YMCA’s Spinning® classes will help burn calories and relieve stress.

Stationary bicycling is an excellent way to strengthen your heart and cardiovascular fitness while taking it easy on your joints. Not to mention it’s a workout that’s all your own!

Tabata

Tabata offers short bursts of peak effort using the formula of a work/rest ratio of 2:1. The class includes alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercise. They have even shorter, less-intense recovery periods. With a variety of exercises and methods for this training, you’ll always be targeting major muscle groups for a whole body workout.

Tabata is a highly popular exercise for those who are looking for a fast, simple workout. It’s ideal for those who wish to improve their cardiovascular and muscular strength. With just minutes of intensity, you can get fit fast.

Total Body Burn

If you’re looking for a high-intensity interval class to give your entire body a great workout, try the Total Body Conditioning class at the Harrisburg Area YMCA! This class incorporates high-intensity interval training to help burn calories quickly and build muscle.

In addition, it combines powerful plyometric moves, cardiovascular conditioning drills, and strength training intervals. As a result, the body strengthens and ones while improving flexibility.

Zumba®

Zumba® classes fuse fun energetic rhythms to create a dynamic dance fitness workout. Class includes merengue, salsa, hip-hop, and many more dances from around the world. Appropriate for all ages and all levels.
