Aqua Yoga Classes

The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers Aqua Yoga classes in a group fitness environment! Aqua Yoga is a delicate water exercise class that utilizes the fundamental exercises, principles, and movements of yoga and adapts them to a shallow-water environment.

The program is a gentle and very low impact aquatic activity. With the release of gravity, the body is able to find the optimum stretch that mat yoga may restrict.  The stretches performed in the water allow the body to minimize discomfort, alleviate stress and improve flexibility. Participants are able to experience familiar poses in a new way and practice new movements in the water that they may not otherwise achieve on land.

By using the rhythm of the breath, an inner sense of relaxation can be achieved. Relaxation poses are used for warm up and cool-down phases of the class. Various flotation devices are sometimes utilized in order to aid in various exercises. Aqua Yoga classes help create fluid movements in your spine and take all weight off of your joints.

This class is open to adults of all ages and abilities. It is recommended for those who are pregnant or senior citizens, as the low-impact exercises help strengthen the body effortlessly.
