The Harrisburg Area YMCA offers preschool swim lesson levels for children between the ages of 3-5 years. We help children build elementary swimming skills while teaching them safety along the way. Children are placed with our trained instructors based on their skill levels.
Perfect for beginners! These preschool swim lessons allow children adjust to the water and develop independent movement through the use of an Instructional Flotation Device (float belt, bar bell or kick board) and/or assistance from the instructor at all times. We work on kicking skills, floating, pool safety and basic strokes.
Children are more confident in the water, but still considered beginners. They should be able to put their face in the water and/or able to take breaths. Swimmers may still require the use of an Instructional Flotation Device, but are able to swim longer distances (between 10 and 40 feet with a flotation belt). Children are taught to float, kick and perform progressive arm movements.
Our intermediate preschool swim lessons class is for swimmers who are using the Instructional Flotation Device less and less. Child swims at least 40 feet with a flotation belt, face in the water and able to take long breaths and paddle on back with flotation. We improve on stroke skills on front, back arm alternating paddles that closely resemble the front and back crawls.
Our most advanced preschool swim lessons class reviews and improves stroke skills on front, back and side while building endurance while our instructors teach them to tread water. Child swims the length of the pool (25 yards) with a flotation belt or 40 feet without flotation, face in the water and with rhythmic breathing, and side paddle with flotation.
